Kaizer Chiefs have struggled to score from open play this season with no evidence of a ‘Plan B’ when the situation calls for it.
So what’s the underlying problem?
What’s wrong with Kaizer Chiefs?
Bimenyimana yet to prove his worth
Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has done okay in his first season so far, but two-thirds of his six league goals have come from the penalty spot. Meanwhile, Ashley du Preez has been widely criticized for his wastefulness in front of goal. Outside of these two, the Glamour Boys are short of options up top.
Kaizer Chiefs not scoring enough from open play
Amakhosi have scored four of their 16 league goals this term from the penalty spot, via Bimenyimana. Keagan Dolly has also weighed in with a couple of (admittedly superb) free-kicks. Defenders have also been getting on the score sheet regularly. But what about the strikers? It’s their job to put the ball in the net and they’ve been found wanting.
Nurkovic might have been a useful “Plan B” option at Naturena, had he been retained.
What’s the plan?
Chiefs need clinical men up front and have been linked with 31-year-old Hungarian journeyman Balint Bajner. Hardly the type of signing to frighten the likes of Sundowns and Pirates, but perhaps he has something different to offer? Fortunately for Chiefs management, there’s a while until their next competitive outing. They face Golden Arrows on December 31st.
So, if you were the Kaizer Chiefs boss, what would you do to get more goals from your strikers?
