After intercepting a group attempting to smuggle high-performance vehicles across the Limpopo River, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) confiscated them.
According to Capt Moses Semono, soldiers from the 1 SA Tank Regiment deployed under the joint tactical headquarters in Limpopo seized four Toyota Fortuner SUVs.

“Members of 1 SA Tank Regiment were carrying out operations on the western side of Mabiligwe 2 when they spotted four vehicles driving towards the Limpopo River. Our soldiers had to manoeuvre in the right place where they assumed the vehicles would try to cross.
“But unfortunately, as there is no road, the vehicles changed direction and that forced our soldiers to break cover. Once approached, the occupants started shooting and the SANDF members returned fire. The suspects escaped into the bushes,” said Semono.
SANDF Soldiers confiscated all 4 x stolen/hijacked vehicles driving towards the Limpopo River to Zimbabwe which were all identified as Toyota Fortuner GD 6, 4 x 4. The two were T/Fortuner 2.8 GD 6 valued at R2400000 and the other two were T/Fortuner 2.4 GD 6 valued at R1800000… pic.twitter.com/IZXJBt9oGb

In other news, Limpopo police have apprehended a Toyota Prado vehicle that had been hijacked in Gauteng and was being driven by a woman towards neighbouring Zimbabwe.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the Limpopo provincial SAPS spokesperson, said the 39-year-old woman was arrested on the spot.
“In ensuring that stolen or hijacked vehicles are not going through our borders, the ever-alert police officers intercepted and pulled over a Toyota Prado along the N1 road under Botlokwa policing area north of Polokwane on Wednesday, 9 November 2022, and arrested a 39-year-old female suspect,” Ledwaba said.
“The information was provided by the members of the Crime Intelligence Unit about a hijacked Toyota Prado motor vehicle which was intended to be smuggled to Zimbabwe via Beitbridge port of entry.
“The members of Limpopo Tracking Team, SPS High Risk and Tshimollo Security jointly operationalised the information given and subsequently spotted the motor vehicle fitting the description (at) Sekonye village,” he said.
The vehicle was stopped and searched, and police discovered that it had false registration plates.
