Under pressure Maritzburg United coach John Maduka says he enjoys full support from his management despite his club lying in the relegation zone in the DStv Premiership table.
Maduka, who joined the club at the beginning of the season on a two-year deal with an option to renew, says to build a team takes time and the management is aware of that.
The Team of Choice are amongst the relegation candidates at the moment, lying 14th on the log table with 10 points after 10 matches.
Before their match against second-placed Richards Bay on Saturday, they were at the bottom of the table. But they got a draw to move up the table, leaving Swallows now at the foot of the log and followed by Marumo Gallants.
Maritzburg has not won in the last three matches and next face AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday (17:30).
“I enjoy the support of the chairman (Farook Kadodia) and the plan was to build a new team,” said Maduka.
“To build a team it takes time. For me as a coach, it is part of our job. The pressure we know how to handle and the results when they are not coming, of course, the coach has to take the blame. But for now, I don’t put myself under pressure. I always leave everything in the hands of God.
“I said it at Royal AM last season, if God doesn’t want me to be here, I won’t be here. If he wants me to be here, I will be here – it is as simple as that.”
Talks were awash that if Maritzburg did not get anything against Richards Bay, Maduka would have been fired by Kadodia.
“It is all over (that coaches are after my job) and some of them are agents,” he added.
“They are trying to promote their own players, but it is the life of a coach. We drew against Bay and we have moved to number 14 on the log table. If we had won the game, we would have been 10th on the table.
“If you look at the log itself, winning the game against AmaZulu, you move maybe to seven or eight, somewhere there. For us we are still in there. We don’t get disturbed by people’s opinions.”
