Royal AM attempted to lure another Mamelodi Sundowns veteran after their shock signing of Ricardo Nascimento last season.
The Brazilian who was a mainstay in the Masandawana defence was sacrificed to register new foreign talent and ended up in KwaZulu-Natal where he’s continued to be one of the leading defenders in the South African top flight. iDiski Times has been informed that Denis Onyango was also on
their radar and after an opening approach, the Uganda legend rebuffed their attempts ahead of 2022/23 season where he’s now been behind Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams in the pecking order.
Royal AM’s ambitious approach was due to their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup and they were seeking a senior figure with extensive experience in continental football.
It remains to be seen whether they will revisit their interest or be able to stump up a package that could potentially lure the club legend away from Chloorkop in January.
You can read more exclusive content in this week’s edition of iDiski Times, including interviews with Thembinkosi Lorch and Luvuyo Memela as well as Banyana Banyana star Gabriela Salgado. We also have comments from AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu and a feature on Golden Arrows’ Velemseni Ndwandwe. In the rumour section we heard that MaMkhize was keen on luring Denis Onyango to Royal AM, while high salary packages prevented more exits at Mamelodi Sundowns. Read this and more, by clicking below:
