Ekupholeni Mental Health and Trauma Centre (EMHTC) celebrated its growth as it reflects on three years of successes during its AGM that was held at Christ Ambassadors Gospel Church at Nguza Street Ext 2 in Vosloorus on September 7.
The AGM’s purpose was for the community-based organisation to report back to various stakeholders and its sponsors.
During his report, the EMHTC chairperson Philani Sangweni mentioned the vision of Ekupholeni is to be a psychosocial services provider of choice. Communities are receiving holistic quality services aimed at promoting the total well-being of individuals and families to be self-sustainable.
“Today’s theme is redefining, reshaping and repositioning the existence of this community-based organisation within the community,” said Sangweni.
He emphasised that EMHTC Ekupholeni has been able to redefine, remodel and reposition itself with a special focus on a single word – self-sustainable.
He further said the self-sustainable approach has enforced the organisation to see itself as a psychosocial service of choice and that it has built the organisation to be resilient.
“As the chairperson, I have witnessed the organisational growth in terms of staff compliment from 34 to 134 within three years.
“I have witnessed the organisation’s expansion in terms of our geographical areas and our beneficiaries. For example from 2019 to date, we have opened 16 satellite offices and we have serviced more than 30 000 beneficiaries.
“Within our board, we have managed to have diverse board members from different professional backgrounds and I am proud to say all our board members are postgraduates dedicated to serving the community. We have repositioned, redefined and remodelled ourselves as a multi-professional team that solely promotes sound governance.”
