Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler is feeling confident ahead of Saturday’s MTN8 quarter-final against AmaZulu.
This weekend the focus switches from the DStv Premiership action to the cup, as City host Usuthu at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking at the MTN8 media day at Hartleyvale on Wednesday, Tinkler said that while they lost to high-flying AmaZulu in the league earlier this month, he felt they played well against the team in Durban, and he is feeling quietly confident that City can go all the way in the tournament.

Last season City were losing finalists, after Mamelodi Sundowns won the final on penalties, with the score 1-1 after 120 minutes.
“Ja, obviously, normally the league starts with the MTN8, but we’re already five games in and now we face AmaZulu,” Tinkler said at the pre-match press conference.
“We’ve obviously already played them in the league so we know what to expect from them. We, unfortunately, lost against them away but I thought the performance on the day wasn’t bad. We had chances to possibly win that game.
“But they’re in pretty good form at the moment, they’ve had very good results, they find themselves near the top of the log. So it’s not going to be an easy game. It’s going to be tough, but hopefully now after this win against Chiefs, the motivation, the confidence, the morale, will be a lot higher.
“And obviously, we would love to see ourselves moving on in the competition. We got all the way to the final and we were one kick away from winning it, and we’d obviously like to see ourselves taking it one step further.”

Tinkler said picking up their first victory of the season in Tuesday’s 2-0 win against Kaizer Chiefs, has already had a huge positive influence on the squad.
“It’s positive energy, that’s the key factor, everybody’s talking about the performance (last night),” Tinkler said.
“Most of them are on social media, so before it was all negative energy and you could feel it obviously in training, you could feel it on matchday but you could see the difference today.
“So I think it makes a huge difference for the players in particular. So you know I try and just keep that negativity away as much as I possibly can.”
