Former President Jacob Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, has officially been sworn in as a Member of Parliament (MP).
She was among 58 members of the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party who took their oath at the Good Hope Chamber in Cape Town on Tuesday. This marks a significant step in her political career.

Addressing the media, Zuma-Sambudla stated that she and her fellow MK party members would await further instructions from her father, Jacob Zuma, who is also the leader of the MK party. This underscores the influence and continued involvement of Jacob Zuma in the political landscape.
The MK party MPs will be led in the National Assembly by former Western Cape Judge President, John Hlophe.

Despite being impeached earlier this year following allegations of misconduct related to a case involving Jacob Zuma, Hlophe has taken up the mantle of leader of the opposition.

According to Hlophe, the MK party views itself as the official opposition, given that the Democratic Alliance (DA) has joined the Government of National Unity (GNU).
John Hlophe emphasized that the MK party is committed to working collaboratively with other opposition parties, specifically mentioning the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African Transformation Movement (ATM).

He promised robust but respectful debates, asserting that the MK party will stand firm and not allow itself to be bullied.
Notably absent from the swearing-in ceremony was Chief Justice Raymond Zondo. Instead, the MK party members were sworn in by the Acting Judge President of the Western Cape Division, Patricia Goliath.
Goliath reminded the new MPs of their duties as outlined in Section 48 of the Constitution, which mandates that all members must swear or affirm their faithfulness to the Republic and obedience to the Constitution before commencing their duties.
