Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa is targeting a return to Africa’s premier club competition the CAF Champions League following the double his side pulled over rivals Kaizer Chiefs this season.
The win in the second half Soweto derby saw Pirates climb to second position on the DStv Premiership log tied on 33 points with SuperSport United behind them both from 20 matches.
The Buccaneers qualified for the tournament this season – however, they did not make the group stage as they were eliminated by Jwaneng Galaxy in the preliminary round.
Mabasa who has recently come back from a loan at Moroka Swallows told iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in the current edition of the newspaper, that Pirates want to return to Africa next season and draw inspiration from the senior national team’s exploits at the AFCON.
“It’s a six-pointer you know, and it’s exactly what you want to accomplish,” Mabasa told iDiski Times.
“Finish as high as possible in the league and make it into the CAF Champions League. And hopefully, next season compete in the CAF Champions League and go all the way and take inspiration from what Bafana did at AFCON and go all the way in the Champions League as well.”
