Struggling Durban-based side Golden Arrows will not make any coaching changes and will give coach Mabhuti Khenyeza more time to prove his worth at the club – at least for now.
This is despite Khenyeza being under immense pressure at the club as they lost their 10th successive game across all competitions, going down 1-0 to Sekhukhune United in their DStv Premiership match at Mpumalanga Stadium on Wednesday.
It was a crushing blow to Khenyeza and his team as Lehlohonolo Seema’s side scored late in the game, when Elias Mokwana was left unmarked in the box and beat Sifiso Mlungwana with a low shot to take all the points in KZN.
Khenyeza was given sole charge of Arrows in September after the departure of Vusi Vilakazi, but he last won a match against Kaizer Chiefs in the same month, which was Cavin Johnson’s first game in charge of the Soweto giants.
After that, things went south for the former Chiefs striker, who is the second all-time goal scorer in the PSL with 110 goals.
They were given a retreat when Swallows failed to play their game in December last year due to the Dube Birds internal fight with the players, resulting in the cancellation of the game and Arrows being awarded three points along with three goals by the PSL.
Khenyeza, speaking in the post-match against Sekhukhune, said they should have ended their barren run, but they were profligacy in the first half, and he doesn’t believe luck has deserted his side.
“I don’t know what is happening,” said Khenyeza.
“At the end of the day, luck is for everyone, it might be gone from us. What frustrates me is that, not because of the team doesn’t play, we created great chances, and you need to have that killer instinct.
“[The more you miss them], the opposition lives in hope and that is what happened here. I don’t think it’s luck, it’s a responsibility that we need to take because if we talk about luck, we must take responsibility.
“I think many of you can testify that we are making many mistakes, we put them under pressure, we play with speed up front, but we are failing, and teams should have been dead in the first half, if we convert them.”
Arrows next visit Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, with their away form much better compared to that at home. Of the seven wins they have accumulated, five have come on the road.

Khenyeza said he had not thought about doing the double over Amakhosi, who were bundled out of the Nedbank Cup by minnows Milford FC, but he still gets full support from everyone within the club.
“It’s a big support,” added Khenyeza.
“I have never had a negative element and all the time they are supportive.”
