Sekhukhune United head coach Lehlohonolo Seema believes his side could have pushed RS Berkane to the end in Group D, had his team won their match against the latter at home on Sunday.
Seema’s charges were reduced to 10 men and drew their Confederation Cup clash with Berkane 0-0, which meant they were eliminated from the competition with a match to spare.
They are currently third in the group with five points from as many matches and cannot catch the top two sides in their last group encounter.
The coach believes the first-half red card to Jamie Webber changed his side’s plans to an extent although he was pleased that they didn’t concede a goal, while applauding Badra Ali Sangare for a god performance after he made three superb saves to deny the Moroccans.
“We are not happy that we are out because we could have pushed Rabat to the last game had we won our game today,” said Seema after the match.
“The conditions that were there today of that red card I think they tempered with our plan a bit but we soldiered on and 0-0 score-line, a clean sheet again. And at home again our record continues to be better than our away record.
“Not wanting to single out any player but you can see that we have a [AFCON] gold medallist there in poles. I think he kept us in the game whenever he was needed.
“There was one-on-one there that he came [out] so it’s good to have him. He is still fresh, one would think that because he hasn’t played for long and he did not get game-time that side, he’d come rusty.
“But what we have seen today we are happy with it.”
Ba bina Noko travel to Congo for their last group match against Diables Noirs this weekend.
