Tooele, Utah – A heart-stopping incident unfolded in Tooele, Utah, as a semi-truck lost control, careening into 33 vehicles before crashing into a Ford dealership. The subsequent explosion and fire wreaked havoc, with shocking dashcam footage capturing the narrow escape of one driver.
Austin England, 35, recounted the terrifying moment when he narrowly avoided the collision on North Main Street. The out-of-control truck, carrying trailers full of gravel, barreled through intersections before colliding with the dealership. Preliminary investigations suggest brake failure as a potential cause, leaving 10 people injured, with one in critical condition.
Lieutenant Jeremy Hansen, a 17-year veteran of Tooele City Police, expressed disbelief at the scale of the accident. “I’ve never seen an accident this big in Tooele city,” he remarked.
The truck plowed through multiple vehicles before crashing into the Tooele Motor Company building. Tooele City Police are also probing an earlier accident on Vine Street, contributing to the chain of events.
Austin England, who captured the shocking footage, described the chaotic scene: “Right after the truck almost hit me, it hit the cars next to me and then the truck for some reason decided to swerve into a Ford dealership parking lot where it hit multiple brand new cars before bursting into flames as it hit the building.”
Despite the extensive damage and eleven reported injuries, fortunately, no lives were lost. Terrified residents, including Tony Garner, shared harrowing experiences of narrowly avoiding the catastrophe. “I closed my eyes and prayed,” Garner said.
The fire, extinguished by authorities, caused substantial damage to the dealership, with an estimated 10 to 15 brand-new vehicles affected. CJ Goldsberry, an eyewitness and dealership employee, described the chaotic aftermath: “It just smashed into the front of the Ford building and just lit up on fire and everything. Other cars started exploding. It was pandemonium. It was really crazy.”
The driver of the semi-truck is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. As Tooele residents grapple with the shock of this unprecedented incident, the community is thankful for the miraculous escapes amid the fiery chaos.
