A big change in how we deal with confiscated drugs just happened, and it’s all thanks to the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), who led the way in public drug destruction in Johannesburg. This event was a game-changer, showing a new way of handling drugs and making law enforcement more open about their actions.
What sparked this transformation was a question from the EFF’s leader, Julius Malema. He wanted to know why drug destruction was done secretly, while alcohol got publicly disposed of. Today’s event not only answered Malema’s question but also let the media and the public in on the action. Around 5000 kilograms of drugs, worth about R800 million on the streets, were destroyed, and everyone knew where it happened.
This move by the EFF shows they’re serious about being accountable to the public and making everyone aware of what the police are doing. It’s their way of saying that the drug problem is a big deal, and it’s going to take everyone working together to fix it.
The police carried out the drug destruction, showing that they’re teaming up to tackle the issue. The 5000 kilograms of drugs they destroyed were from all sorts of substances, and the value of it all shows how big the problem is. This is a major hit to the drug trade in the area.
This is part of ongoing efforts to deal with drug problems in South Africa, and destroying drugs in public is a big step in the right direction. It tells us that fighting the drug trade needs the police and everyone else to be on the same page.
Doing this in public is all about being open and demanding stronger actions against drug problems. We’ll have to wait and see how this new approach affects future drug destruction and what people think of the police’s commitment to this important issue.

Yesterday the CIC @Julius_S_Malema asked why are drugs destroyed in undisclosed locations and not in public like alcohol.
Today, the first public destruction of drugs happened where media was invited!
