On Monday, Chiefs announced that Kamohelo Mahlatsi has left the club after the midfielder’s contract was terminated by mutual consent. He is now a free agent.
Meanwhile, it’s been reported by SABC Sport that defender Luke Fleurs has left SuperSport United and is now a free agent who has immediately headed to Naturena for assessments.
According to the article, SuperSport could not guarantee Fleurs game time, and he has now headed away from the club despite having signed a new long-term contract in January.
At that time, Chiefs had been linked with real interest in bringing Fleurs to the club, but his agent Glyn Binkin ultimately explained why the defender opted to agree to a new deal at SuperSport, effectively turning down Amakhosi at the same time.
“At the time Chiefs told me they were not interested, and the player needed to secure his future, which he has now done,” Binkin told Soccer Laduma.
“I can confirm that it is true (that he’s re-signed with SuperSport) and, as mentioned by the CEO of SuperSport, there is both a local and International buyout clause if such opportunities arise. But for now, he is focused on SuperSport United.”
On that note, Matthew explained the clauses enforced in the new long-term contract.
“I can tell you that Luke has recommitted his future to SuperSport by agreeing to a three-and-a-half-year deal. It’s good news, and we have told the player we will not stand in his way if a good opportunity comes along,” Matthews explained.
“The club has inserted a local and international buy-out clause should there be an offer we believe makes sense for the club and for Luke.”
Interestingly, it seems he has now been let go, and Chiefs is clearly the preferred destination once again.
Meanwhile, when it dcomes to Mahlatsi, there is no clear indication as yet as to why his contract was terminated.
