South African coach Morena Ramoreboli and Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe have both been nominated for awards at the Botswana Football Association (BFA) Awards.
Ramoreboli, won the Botswana Premier League with Jwaneng Galaxy and has been nominated in a category of Coach Of The Year in Botswana.
The Free State-born coach led Galaxy to their second league title in club’s history. After winning the title he was rewarded with contract extension which will see him in the club until end of the current season.
Winning the league meant that Galaxy will participate in the CAF Champions League, which won’t be first time after he steered them to the group stages back in the 2021/22 season. This time around Ramoreboli will face a familiar side in Orlando Pirates in the second preliminary round after knocking out Ugandan side Vipers SC 3-2 on aggregate.
The South African-born coach was also appointed as the Bafana Bafana coach for the recent COSAFA Cup, where the make-shift Bafana side to a bronze medal.
It appears Ramoreboli is the front-runner for the award, with Pontsho Moloi of Gaborone United, Seemo Mpafane of Eleven Eagles and Mandla Luku Mpofu of Masitaoka FC the other three candidates.
Meanwhile, Chiefs defender Ditlhokwe has been officially nominated in a category of Men’s Footballer Of The Year.
Ditlhokwe, who is currently the captain of Botswana national team, joined Amakhosi at the beginning of the current season after spending two season at SuperSport United.
The 24-year old won the Botswana Premier League with Township Rollers before joining Matsatsantsa in January 2022.
He has played all Amakhosi games this season, and featured 27 times for Gavin Hunt last term. The defender has 26 national caps for The Zebras.
He has been nominated alongside Botswana fan favourites Mothusi Cooper, Tumisang Orebonye, Gape Mohutsiwa, Kabelo Seakanyang and Lebogang Ditsele.
The ceremony will take place on 7 October at the Gaborone International Convention Centre and CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe will be a special guest.
