SAPS units have been maintaining watch on a gang of suspects who were reportedly plotting a Cash-In-Transit (CIT) heist in Limpopo, various. Before they today pounced on a specified address in Makhado, the observation had been made for a number of days. When police arrived at the address, the suspects opened fire, and police responded by firing back. At the site, 16 males and 2 girls were pronounced deceased. Four individuals were taken into custody in Thohoyandou at a second address.
Ten cars, including a number of high-performance vehicles, as well as seven automatic weapons have been taken. Numerous law enforcement personnel searched the area. During the gunfight, a senior police officer assigned to the DPCI was injured and is now receiving hospital treatment.
While the police were occupied engaging the suspects in a firefight in Makhado, another section of the police squad traveled to a different safe house in Thohoyandou, where five (5) individuals were detained. A portion of those slain in Makhado is thought to include the accused. At the second address in Thohoyandou, two suspected stolen cars—a Volvo and another car marked with an ambulance—were discovered and taken into custody. The money from the robbery in Limpopo Province to Gauteng Province is said to have been transported in an ambulance-like vehicle.
On September 4, 2023, five (5) defendants are scheduled to appear before the Vuwani Magistrates’ Court to answer to allegations of possessing allegedly stolen automobiles.
