Midfielder Given Mashikinya, who was released by Sekhukhune United at the end of the season, has found a new home at Polokwane City.
The 32-year-old did not spend much time with Sekhukhune, having just joined them in the second half of last season from Maritzburg United.
He also joined the Team of Choice just before this past season started from Royal AM, reuniting with his former coach John Maduka at the club from Umgungundlovu.
But after Maduka was sacked in November last year and been replaced by Fadlu Davids, Mashikinya left and signed for Sekhukhune.
But his stay with Babina Noko was also short, and despite making 14 appearances, he has now joined DStv Premiership newbies Polokwane City, who were promoted to the top flight last season after winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Mashikinya could be reunited with Lucky Baloyi, having played together at Bloemfontein Celtic, Royal AM and Maritzburg United, respectively.
The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Baloyi joined Rise and Shine in the second half of the 2022/23 season, having also been let go by Maritzburg, and he is currently in talks to get a new deal with the club.
With the addition of Mashikinya, it brings Polokwane’s signings to eight, having earlier captured Sinoxola Kwayiba, Tlou Nkwe, Oswin Appollis and Nyakalo Raphadu from Pretoria Callies, Kgotsofalo Mabu and Francious Baloyi from Dondol Stars, plus Luciano van Heerden from Baroka FC.Â
