Mike Makaab, the agent of Terrence Dzvukamanja, has confirmed that Orlando Pirates have released the player, but his move to SuperSport United has not been finalised yet.
The Buccaneers released a statement on Monday, saying that Dzvukamanja had asked the club to be released “to play in Zimbabwe to be close to home in order to address pressing family matters”.
The club further stated they wanted to grant him “compassionate leave” to sort out his issues but wanted to include him in their CAF Champions League squad for the 2023/24 season.
However, in Pirates’ version of events SuperSport then approached the player to the “surprise” of the Buccaneers, who then opted to “release Dzvukamanja to SuperSport”.
Makaab was asked Dzvukamanja’s situation but, while he confirmed his client has been released, he opted not to comment further on the club’s statement, other than to thank chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza.
“It is true that they have released him. It is also true that final bits and pieces are being put into place for his move to SuperSport United,” he said on Gagasi FM.
“I would rather not comment about the statement, I’d rather not comment about the matter too much because it is sensitive and it’s not as simple as it seems.
“But I would like to say that I have always enjoyed an incredible and honest relationship with the [Pirates] chairman. I will normally say a [relationship with a football club], of course I do with Orlando Pirates Football Club, but in this particular instance with the chairman and I thank the chairman for his sensitivity towards the issues that had developed over the past few weeks.
“I’d rather leave it at that and thank Orlando Pirates for the opportunity they gave to Terrence Dzvukamanja. I’d also like the supporters to remember what Terrence did for them towards the end of his contract.
“Let’s see what transpires here after.”
Makaab also stated that they “only opened talks with SuperSport towards the end of this week”.
“This all has happened very quickly and I must say it is a surprising end to long discussions, but sometimes the less said on a complicated matter, the better,” he added.

“But again I thank the chairman and the football club for the problems Terrence has encountered.”
Dzvukamanja joined Pirates from Bidvest Wits, where he worked with Gavin Hunt, in 2020 and made 76 appearances for the Buccaneers, scoring 16 goals.
Eight of those goals came last season, when he made the number 9 spot his own in the second half of the campaign and also scored the winner in the Nedbank Cup final.
